ViewGuitarists are a funny bunch. They spend ages picking and choosing the perfect guitar for them, ensuring that it looks, feels and sounds just right, and then what do they do? They go and modify it. They replace the pickups, the neck, the bridge - anything to create the ideal guitar.
The modification subculture amongst guitarists is huge, and Squier have been paying tribute to that ethos with the Vintage Modified series for some time now - but now, there's something special in the air with some new incredible models in the range, which we've been lucky enough to see in the Junkie today.
There are five new models in total - two Telecasters, a Jaguar, a Jazzmaster and a Mustang - the first Squier Mustang in production! Each one has distinctive features and stunning pricing. Let's take a look at some of the models...
The Squier Vintage Modified Telecaster Deluxe carries on the tradition of the famed Fender '72 Deluxe Telecaster, including incredible Fender-Designed Wide Range humbucking pickups.
I'm a die-hard Telecaster fan, and this one is a real beauty - it features a comfortable C profile neck and black-skirted control knobs as well as a vintage-tint gloss neck, which looks and feels absolutely great, all topped off with a '70s Strat-style headstock. Chunky!
Next up we have the Squier Vintage Modified Mustang. The Mustang is most famously the guitar seen slung over the shoulder of grunge hero Kurt Cobain, but amazingly this Fender mainstay has never before been produced as a Squier model - and what an entrance it's made!
The Mustang features a smaller 24" scale, making it an incredibly easy guitar to play, and also features a pair of incredibly sweet-sounding Duncan Designed Mustang pickups. The Rosewood neck features 22 medium jumbo frets, and there's a master volume and tone control with on/off-phase switches for each pickup.
There's also my personal favourite, the Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar - the Jag is an amazing guitar, full of tone and incredible options, and Squier have really outclassed themselves with this one.
The Jaguar also features a 24" scale, making it just as comfortable as the Mustang, but my favourite thing about this guitar is that the Duncan Designed pickups retain all of the chime of the Fender original, and all of the classic Jaguar switching is in place - the seperate rhythm circuit, the individual pickup on/off switches and the unique tone circuit switch.
So those are the models that we've seen - still to come are the Vintage Modified Jazzmaster and Telecaster Custom, which I can only imagine are going to be just as superb. Like the sounds of these?
